New to Yoga
Whether it’s your first class with us, or first class in general, these guidelines are meant to make you feel comfortable and in-the-know before you start your practice.
Dress
Wear comfortable, loose clothing. Know you’ll be barefoot on your mat, it’s a must to get the proper benefits of each class. Skip the perfume, jewelry and watch. Basic is better.
Food & Water
Optimize your practice by arriving on an empty stomach. Let your body focus on yoga, not digesting. Drink lots of water throughout the day, it will help with flexibility. No gum is allowed in class.
Pack
Yoga mat: the most sanitary way is having your own. Mats are also available for rent. Water. Ultra-absorbent towel (such as a big beach towel) is helpful to absorb sweat during hot yoga.
Note: Yoga mats, Yogitoes Towels (specifically designed for hot yoga), accessories such as blocks/straps, clothing and more can all be purchased right at Yoga by Sarah’s in-house store.
Registration/Sign-in/Set-up
First time with us? Give yourself at least 20 minutes to do paperwork, get a tour of our facilities, meet your instructor and get settled in.
Space in classes work on a first come, first serve basis. No saving spots.
Bring just what you need to class. Our studio has washroom/change rooms, and an area for storage of belongings in the front closet reception area.
Just before class
Inform your teacher if you are pregnant or have any particular health concerns.
You’re running late/leaving early
Classes typically start with centering/meditation. Please wait outside until after this is done to join in.
To ensure a spot in class, arrive early. Latecomers are disruptive. If you are late, we will try to accommodate you, but may not be able to.
If you must leave early, take a few minutes to do Savasana (corpse pose). It ensures you’ll have a balanced class. Please leave before the rest of the class begins Savasana so you don’t disturb your fellow classmates.
We strongly encourage all students to stay from start to finish as to not disrupt your fellow classmates and to get the full benefits of the class.
During class
You know your body best. Never force yourself into postures. If you feel pain or discomfort, stop immediately.
Keep hydrated. Drink water when you feel you need to.
What classes do I take?
If you’re new to yoga, a great placed to start is our Pre-Registered, 8-week Beginner Hatha course. Each week we progressively build your yoga knowledge base. Explore form and proper alignment. Start here and work your way up to our Drop-in Schedule.
If the 8-week beginner course doesn’t suit you or your schedule, we suggest you take a Prep class on our Drop-in Schedule. All of our Drop-in classes are clearly labeled as Prep, Intermediate/Advanced and All Level on our schedule.
If you cannot attend a Beginner or Prep class, try an All Level class. When we say all level, we mean all level. Modifications are given for beginners to advanced. After a few weeks you’ll feel more comfortable on your mat.
